Draw Poker

Most everyone has seen the game of poker played either on TV or on the Internet. What most beginners don't understand is the technique that is involved in playing the game. Or maybe not even knowing what the cards actually mean or what their values are. This information is to give players a basic understanding of the game and the possibility of being able to start playing poker for them at a very basic level.

One of the very basic parts of being a better card player is to know what the values of the cards are. Starting with the number 2 which is the lowest value and continuing to the ace as the highest. Knowing the values of your cards will allow you to make better decisions on the hands that you are playing. Five card draw is one of the more simpler poker games to play and will give you an opportunity to learn what the value of your cards are and still give you an opportunity to enjoy the game. Once you started playing knowing the rank of what you have in your hand is half the battle starting with any five cards nonmatching would be considered on a scale of 0 to 10 a 0. Next would be one pair this pair could be ranked from 2 to ace its scale would be 1. Next would be two pair same ranking 2 to ace its scale would be 2, three of a kind scale 3, straight which is any five consecutive cards scale 4, flush which is five of the same color scale 5, full house which is three of one kind and to two of another scale 6, four of a kind scale 7, straight flush (five cards and consecutive and same color) scale 8, and the all elusive royal flush which can rank from 10 Jack Queen King ace and of the same color or 9 10 Jack Queen King all of the same color.

Knowing your rank of cards and how to put them together is most of the battle, now let’s briefly go over the game rules. To begin the hand an ante is put out and that can be anything from money to matchsticks whatever you desire to play for, the hand is dealt a bet is made on what you've been dealt and the bets continued until the hand is called or everyone folds. Let's say the dealer has dealt you your five cards (that's why it is called five card draw) and you have a 10 9 Jack King 4 all different colors what you do, you have the possibility of drawing an inside straight if you were to get rid of the 4 the possibility of drawing the Queen is high but you will still have a straight which is a very good hand but then again this is poker and gambling so do you want to take that chance, possibly. One important rule to know is that you can throw away all five of your cards that's part of the draw but in this particular case you would probably want to get rid of the 4, once you discard your 4 you will receive another card in its place and as luck would have it you drew the Queen you make the call on the hand he has a pair of Kings you win the hand.

This is a very brief insight into draw poker and hopefully it can get you started on a basic path to knowing what your cards are and how to play them. Now you should know the basics!
